Instagram photos and videos are meant to be viewed and not
downloaded. But there comes a time when you wish you had a certain video or
photo on your phone or PC. For non-private accounts, there are a number of
sites that you can use to download these media.
Most of these sites will not be able to access videos from
private Instagram accounts. This makes it impossible to use them to download
such videos. Thankfully, a few of them can use your login details to download
the videos.
But I’ll now show you a simpler trick that you can use to
download Instagram videos from private accounts on your android phone. You
don’t have to use any third party platforms. Just follow these steps:
1. Open the Instagram App on Your Android Phone
In order for the video to load to your phone, you have to
use the default Instagram app. This procedure will not work it you use your
browser. Note: be sure that you have some disc space.
2. Locate the Video You Wish to Download
Use the search tool on the Instagram app to look for the
person whose video you want. If you ‘liked’ the video or other media uploaded
by that particular user, go to your profile and look for ‘posts you’ve liked’.
3. Open Your Video
Once you locate the video, let it load and play. Simply
tapping on the video is not enough. You have to wait until the video starts to
play.
4. Locate the Video File on Your Disc
When you are viewing a video on the Instagram app, it is
first downloaded onto your phone or memory card. The folder in which it is
contained is a hidden one. Therefore, the video will not appear on the gallery.
To locate the video, go to file manager > mobile storage
> android > data > com.instagram.android > cache > video. If you
find an empty folder, start again and select ‘SD card’ instead of ‘mobile
storage’.
The folder that contains videos viewed on Instagram contains
files that look something like 286b8625.o,
3aa63aa0.o. If you find stuff like
that, you are on the real folder.
To quickly find the video you just watched, use the sort
option and set to ‘sort by time’. The file will be at the top of the list. Hold
on the file name and select ‘rename’. Scroll to the end of the name and change
the last character from ‘o’ to ‘mp4’. The file name will therefore look
something like 286b8625.mp4.
Your video is now ready to play. If you like, you can move
it to another folder if you wish it to show up on the gallery. This is the hack
I’ve been using to download Instagram videos from private accounts.
